Sachin and Sehwag reminisce over 2011 WC victory
Six years to the day since India claimed its second World Cup title beating Sri Lanka at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, R. Ashwin and Mohammad Kaif took to social media to reminisce over their memories. The BCCI also posted a video to mark the occasion.
2nd April 2011 has been engraved in every Indian cricket fan's memories. This was the day when India defeated Sri Lanka to bring home the World Cup after 28 years.
India bowled first and Sri Lanka set a competitive target of 275 for India. The home team got off to a bad start losing Sehwag and Tendulkar very early.
The Delhi-duo of Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli provided steadiness to the fumbling batting line and gave India hope for victory.
Kohli fell at the hands of Dilshan at 35 when the spinner grabbed a blinder to send him back to the pavilion.
MS Dhoni came to the crease and then built a partnership of 109 runs with Gautam Gambhir that made the Sri Lankans nervous. Gambhir was all set to score a final-match century when he lost his concentration and shot the ball straight into the fielder's hand.
Then Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni strolled India to victory. Dhoni scored the winning runs in the form of a sixer and the whole country rejoiced the epic win.
6 years later, today, Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to reminisce over the victory when he tweeted, "Like I always say, chase your dreams because dreams do come true, and this was one of those moments in my life when it happened."
