ICC Test Rankings | Cheteshwar Pujara climbs a spot after Joe Root's Ashes failures
Cheteshwar Pujara has improved his place and reached the third position on the latest ICC Test Rankings which were announced on Tuesday. Steve Smith has not only maintained the top position, with 945 rating points, on the list but has also moved closer to Don Bradman’s ranking points record.
Virat Kohli retained his second spot in the rankings with 893 rating points while Pujara climbed one spot to move into third place. Pujara and fourth-placed Kane Williamson have moved up one spot in the latest list after Joe Root, who managed only 176 runs in six innings against Australia in the ongoing Ashes, dropped two places.
Australian skipper Smith, who scored 426 runs in four innings including 239-run knock, jumped to 945 points. His double ton helped him to earn seven points and now he is just 16 rating points behind Bradman’s all-time highest batting points tally of 961.
England's Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow climbed to 52nd and 15th spot respectively. Australia's Mitchell Marsh, who played 181-run knock in the third Test, and Usman Khawaja have also reached 65th and 19th position respectively.
In the bowler’s rankings, James Anderson topped the chart with 892 points followed by South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada. Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin continued to hold the third and fourth position with 870 and 829 ratings respectively. Australian pacer Josh Hazelwood gained one position which helped him feature in the top five after claiming eight wickets in the recently concluded Perth Test.
