When I leave cricket, I want to be at my best, expresses Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh has mentioned that cricket has given him everything in life and when he will retire from the game, he wants to be at his best. The 2011 World Cup winning player is currently playing for the Punjab cricket team who are in Group B in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.
Yuvraj Singh will be always remembered as someone who has achieved a lot in Indian cricket as far as World tournaments are concerned. The Punjab all-rounder is known for his match-winning performances in the 2007 ICC World T20 and 2011 Cricket World Cup. The Men in Blue went on to win both the tournaments while the left-hander was awarded the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 event. His six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad in 2007 is still memorable for thousands of Indian cricket fans.
Currently, playing for his home state Punjab in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, Yuvraj wants to end his career on a high. He is currently in Kolkata for Punjab’s next match against Bengal in Elite Group B.
"Cricket has given me everything. When I leave the game, I want to be at my best. I do not want to go with any regret," Yuvraj told PTI.
The all-rounder was picked up by Mumbai Indians for his base price of Rs 1 crore at the IPL 2019 auctions which concluded last month. After having vast experience in the cash-rich league, Yuvraj wants to do well for the Mumbai franchise after Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.
"I'm trying my best. This is our final league Ranji Trophy match and let's see if we can qualify. After this, we have the national T20 tournament and then we have the IPL. I will give my best shot and hope for the best," the 37-year-old said.
The Punjab cricketer is delighted to see the Indian dominance in the ongoing four-match Test series Down Under. He heaped praises on Virat Kohli and lauded the efforts of Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant for their contribution in winning causes.
"Obviously their experience in batting is not that much what it used to be. But it's
Yuvraj is playing domestic cricket for Punjab but he hasn’t had a great season so far. He has only a score of 96 against the Railways in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to show his performance in the 2018-19 Indian domestic season. But, the senior pro is happy contributing for the state team and share his experience with the youngsters in the team.
"I really enjoy playing with Punjab team. Especially last three-four seasons, I've played a lot of domestic cricket. Whatever I've gained through, I try and give it to the younger guys. We have a very talented side. But I feel there is a lack of exposure in terms of playing outside. The more cricket you play outside in terms of playing in Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi Hyderabad, your cricket will get better," Yuvraj concluded.
