Deepak Chahar has revealed that India coach Ravi Shastri heaped praise on him and told to stay prepared as a stand-by in case of any injury to the Indian pace trio. Deepak along with Khaleel Ahmed, Navdeep Saini and Avesh Khan was selected as the net bowler for the ongoing World Cup.

The Indian cricket team have enjoyed great success at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 bagging back-to-back wins against South Africa and Australia in their two opening games. India suffered a huge blow as Shikhar Dhawan, the star of the win against the defending champions, was ruled out of the World Cup for three weeks due to a thumb fracture. Delhi’s Rishabh Pant has been flown in as a stand-by for Dhawan.

Now, in case of a similar scenario with the bowling unit, India coach Ravi Shastri has his options in place already. Chennai Super Kings’ Deepak Chahar revealed that Shastri has asked him to stay prepared if such a scenario arises in the coming weeks.

"I met everyone before leaving. I was praised by Ravi sir. He praised me and said you have done a great job. He also said - be prepared, you might get a call-up if there's an injury,” Chahar told Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview.

The Rajasthan pacer along with the likes of Khaleel Ahmed, Navdeep Saini and Avesh Khan was selected as the net bowlers for the Indian cricket team for the ongoing World Cup.

"Indian selectors gave me a big duty. They considered me because of my ability to swing the ball and the experience of having already played in England. I was asked to target the Indian top order and bowl in-swingers and out-swingers to them. Our top order is exceptionally talented. Rohit (Sharma) bhai, Virat (Kohli) will do really well in England. They played swing bowling really well.

"I bowled most of the deliveries to Virat as instructed by the team management. He had answers for every delivery bowled to him. I always enjoy bowling in English conditions. I was aware of the conditions so it was easy for me to quickly adapt to them. I enjoyed this time too,” Chahar added.
