Dave Richardson intent on hindering the work of 'corrupted’ forces in cricket

Al Jazeera recently broadcasted a documentary revealing a groundsman and a player debating the tampering of the pitch at Galle. The ICC has decided to take the responsibility of investigation and will be meeting the officials of Al Jazeera.

According to Richardson the work cut out for them will be intense as they are trying to seep into the pores of cricket. 

“We are obviously very much aware there are these type of individuals and types of criminal groups around world who are trying to get into cricket, trying to get hold of players, trying to get hold of groundsmen But it was reminder that these guys are at work and they are not going away and we've got our work cut out trying to disrupt them”, Richardson said.

India vs Sri Lanka at Galle last year, India vs Australia in Ranchi in 2017, and India vs England at Chennai during the end of 2016 are the three Test matches that have come under the suspicion by the sting conducted by Al Jazeera. Richardson found that the T20 are leagues are easier to approach by these criminals as the international cricket rules are difficult for them to breach. 

“It would be very surprising if international cricketers were able to be got to. And therefore, because that target has been hardened, these guys are now trying to create their own leagues, at a much lower level”, ICC CEO said as confirmed by PTI.

“So, what we need to make sure is that anyone staging a T20 domestic tournament- especially televised that they have in place minimum standards. To make sure that they have an anti-corruption code in place, that all the players are educated, and that we are monitoring the franchise owners, the people involved in the tournament, doing due diligence.”
