VIDEO | Sarfraz Ahmed’s “bhangra” appeal in vain as third umpire finds day light between bat and ball
Sarfraz Ahmed’s theatrics have always captured the fans’ attention - although it is up for debate depending on which side of the schism you stand. Today, he pulled off one from the top drawer by doing a “Bhangra” appeal but ended up embarrassing himself as the third umpire ruled it as not out.
On the fourth delivery of the 25th over, Imad Wasim bowled a flatter delivery around off and Faf du Plessis had no clue how to tackle it. He was beaten on his punch, which was easily gobbled up by a close-in Ahmed. The Pakistani skipper was so ecstatic that he started doing the Bhangara dance behind the stumps which somehow seemed like Javed Miandad’s spirit coming inside him.
However, that didn’t affect the umpire one bit as he was stoic in his decision and ruled du Plessis not out. Sarfraz was so adamant that he decided to go upstairs to revert Kumar Dharmasena’s decision, but there was hardly an edge came off du Plessis’ bat. The South African skipper also gestured that the sound came off the bat's handle or maybe the friction against the grip.
The UltraEdge confirmed that there was no connection between the bat and ball and the third umpire decided to stick with his colleague's decision. However, that was enough to bring a difficult smile on the Pakistani skipper’s face.
