Reports | Premier League to discuss prospect of players taking pay cuts

However, to help clubs through that phase with no matchday or advertising revenue coming through the doors, the league will ask players to take pay cuts to help top tier sides through this tough financial time. The ESPN has reported that this will happen sooner rather than later with the clubs set to discuss that with the Premier League’s chief executives at their next meeting on April 3rd.

ESPN further reported that in lieu of the game being suspended beyond the April 30th deadline, Premier League clubs are preparing to reduce player salaries to survive the suspension. The lack of fixtures has affected the smaller sides more than the larger sides although clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal and even Chelsea have all reportedly been discussing wage cuts.

ESPN has reported that it will be a temporary solution until football restarts across Europe although any wage cut has to be imposed by the Professional Footballers Association. The English league won’t be the first one to enforce wage cuts with Borussia Dortmund having already announced that their players will forgo a part of their salaries. Reports also indicate that Barcelona, amongst others, are already in discussions over potential salary cuts to help them through this tough time.
