Virat Kohli spotless in Kohli-Kumble row, according to team manager's report
Kapil Malhotra, the administrative manager of the Indian team, in his Champions Trophy report mentioned that no incident that portrayed Virat Kohli at fault following Anil Kumble's resignation. The BCCI has also called in a report from Anil Patel who was the team manager during the home season.
Anil Kumble stepped down as the Indian coach on June 20th terming his 'untenable' relationship with Indian skipper Virat Kohli who had reservations over his style of management. Following the move, the BCCI was waiting for administrative manager Kapil Malhotra to submit his report, a mandatory process after every home or away series, on the Champions Trophy tournament in England according to which Kohli was not at fault as many assumed him to be.
"Kapil Malhotra has submitted his report. At least there is nothing in the report which suggests that skipper Virat Kohli was ever rude to the coach or mention of any incident which could be termed as a breach of discipline," a BCCI source in the know of things told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
There were reports that Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli were at loggerheads for six months and did not interact at all during that period. When questioned regarding the same, the official replied, "He was specifically asked to mention any incident worth reporting which may have affected the dressing room environment or morale of the team. Nothing of that sort is there in the report."
The Indian board has also sought reports from Anil Patel who was the manager during the 13 Tests India played at home. According to reports, the differences between the Indian skipper and Kumble surfaced during the home series against Australia when the former Indian coach decided to field Kuldeep Yadav for an injured Kohli.
Kapil Malhotra, a Cricket Club Of India member, is currently accompanying the team in the Caribbean and will mark the last tour of a state official as the manager of the team. Milind Kanmadikar of Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association was scheduled to accompany the team to Windies but the Committee of Administrators(CoA) decided that Malhotra will continue.
The CoA had earlier announced the appointment of a full-time manager for the team as requested by Virat Kohli and former Indian coach Anil Kumble.
Kumble's successor is to be chosen on July 10th in Mumbai by the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee(CAC) comprising Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman.
