Virat Kohli reclaims the number one spot in ICC ODI batsmen rankings

Virat Kohli has climbed up to the number one spot overtaking David Warner and AB de Villiers with to reclaim the number one spot in the ICC ODI batsmen rankings released on Tuesday. Shikhar Dhawan has also made a comeback to the top ten after his dazzling stint in the Champions Trophy.

Virat Kohli, who graced the third position earlier in the ICC rankings, overtook his South African counterpart AB de Villiers and Australian opener David Warner to clinch the top spot in the ICC ODI batsmen rankings. The 28-year old achieved this feat following his splendid innings of 78 not out against Pakistan and 76 not out against South Africa. The leap was further fuelled by consecutive poor performances by AB de Villiers and David Warner which allowed Kohli to overcome the 22-point gap between him and de Villiers and 19-point gap between him and the Aussie.

Kohli, who topped the rankings for a span of four days at the start of January 2017, is just one point ahead of David Warner who stands at 861 points. However, the Delhi batsman will look to widen the gap in the upcoming game aginst Bangladesh at Birmingham on June 15th.

Shikhar Dhawan made a comeback to the top 10 following his blistering innings of 68 against Pakistan, 125 against Sri Lanka and 78 against South Africa. The Indian southpaw jumped up five places to number 10 which resulted in Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni slip to the 13th and 14th spot respectively. Yuvraj Singh's brilliant return to ODI was reflected in his rankings with the southpaw gaining six places to finish in the 88th spot.

England's success in the ODIs was reflected in the player rankings as Joe Root moved up one place to finish fourth in the list of the top batsmen while Ben Stokes rocketed nine places to achieve his career-high ranking of 20.

Australia's Josh Hazlewood was ranked the top bowler followed by South Africa's Imran Tahir and compatriot Mitchell Starc at the second and third spot respectively. Bhuvneshwar Kumar's Champions Trophy stint helped him gain 13 places to finish at the 23rd spot while Umesh Yadav's ranked improved by two places with the Indian paceman occupying the 41st position. Jasprit Bumrah rose three places to finish at the 43rd spot.

Afghanistan's Rashid Khan gained a colossal eighteen places to finish eighth in the bowling rankings following his spectacular figures of 7/18 against the West Indies.

Ravindra Jadeja broke into the top ten all-rounders list by jumping from number 11 to number 8 while he dropped in the blower's rankings to 29.
