Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly indirectly sided with Indian skipper Virat Kohli when he commented on a speculated controversy between the Indian captain and Anil Kumble. Ganguly stated that it is the captain who runs the show and the coach is only present in the team to support him.

Ganguly, who himself was involved in a controversial spat with former India coach Greg Chapell said, "I am a firm believer that the captain is the man to run the show and a coach must be there to support him. If India doesn't do well in the Champions Trophy then both the captain and coach will be criticised",

However, the former Indian batsman denied knowing any facts about the rift between the skipper and the coach.

"I don't know what's going on between Kumble and Kohli and I think this is not the right time to talk about all these things, A coach's job is to help the captain.", Ganguly told India Today.

A year ago, Sourav Ganguly had approached Anil Kumble for the post of the Indian head coach and had played a key role in the legendary leg spinner's appointment along with VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar. It was also reported that the BCCI's big trio of Ganguly, Laxman and Tendulkar will try and restore peace between the senior players and Anil Kumble.

Anil Kumble's contract will end after the Champions Trophy and the 46-year old has not been given an auto-extension even after his dazzling stint with the Indian team. BCCI has already started inviting applications for the post of the head coach of the Indian team. Meanwhile, former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has been speculated as the man to contend Kumble for the post of the coach after he was reportedly instructed to do so by the BCCI on the sidelines of the IPL.
