Shikhar Dhawan set the stage on fire with a brisk fifty after which, Shreyas Iyer played a captain’s knock to carry the team over the line despite Delhi’s late scare. Another choke looked on the cards when Delhi lost few wickets in the death but Iyer ensured the target was chased in the final over.

Prithvi Shaw (5/10): Tipped to be the next big thing in Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw’s batting is all about flashy stroke-play and ability to take on the best of the bowlers. He played few excellent strokes to commence his innings, but a horrible mix-up with Shikhar Dhawan along with a brilliant direct hit from Mandeep Singh resulted in Shaw’s dismissal.

Shikhar Dhawan (8.5/10): With the race for the play-offs getting stiff, DC would be happy to see their star player discovering the lost mojo. Dhawan has peaked at the right time and played a gem of an innings in the run-chase. He did the job of getting a good start as well as carrying the momentum to anchor run-chase. To add to his good fortune, Dhawan was also striking at a fairly better strike-rate. He looked positive in this innings and did not shy away from playing his strokes.

Shreyas Iyer (8.5/10): A target in 160s is a tricky one as a couple of good overs can bring the bowling side back into the game and hike up the asking rate. Iyer played a cautious innings to ensure DC gunned down the target in the final over. After a sudden collapse another choke looked on the cards, that too against the same opponent, but this time their skipper was at the crease, who led the side with example. This knock will also infuse a lot of confidence in him as a skipper.

Rishabh Pant (3/10): That was one careless stroke by Rishabh Pant when the odds were completely in their favour. One shouldn’t take such opportunities for granted and try to make the most of it as they come. All Pant needed to do was accompany Iyer out in the middle, but ended up gifting his wicket instead. The situation didn’t demand anything fancy and Pant, perhaps, forgot they choked against the same side in the encounter earlier.

Colin Ingram (7/10): Catches win matches, the cliche has a distinct ring of truth around it. Chris Gayle was batting in top gear when he slightly mistimed a Lamichhane delivery towards Ingram at mid-wicket. Ingram cupped it and displayed brilliant presence of mind by throwing the ball to Axar Patel before losing his balance over the boundary rope. There was a mild collapse in the death overs but Ingram’s cameo of 19 off 9 deliveries helped them get closer. He was undone by a Shami special in the penultimate over.

Sherfane Rutherford (6/10): After Ingram’s dismissal, another DC collapse looked on the cards but Rutherford and Iyer ensured the history wasn’t repeated. He played a couple of good strokes to carry the team over the line.

Axar Patel (7/10): Amidst the abundance of impactful domestic players is DCs’ strength this season, they have a fine aura of Indian players. Axar has been a silent operator for DC and the left-arm orthodox spinner continues to deliver difficult line and length. Noot many finger spinners have managed to find success in this batman-dominated game, but Axar is an exception. Mandeep’s dismissal was a proof to Akshar’s guile as he went wide the moment Mandeep shimmied down the track only to be stumped by the keeper. Axar was unfortunate to have been run out on the very first ball as some hindrance by the bowler while sneaking the second run resulted in his dismissal.

Kagiso Rabada (8/10): The South African speedster was as usual brilliant and one of the shining lights in the DC dugout. He not only squeezed up the runs but also scalped wickets, which has been his story this season. The Purple Cap holder, Rabada has been a force to be reckoned with and continues to grow in stature as Delhi Capitals’ strike bowler.

Amit Mishra (3/10): With the Kotla surface earning a reputation of being extremely slow, spinners automatically have a massive role to play. On this surface, someone like Amit Mishra could pose a big threat, however, the wily leg-spinner failed to inspire confidence tonight. While his tweaking peers were chipping wickets regularly, Mishra turned out to be a little expensive at the other end.

Sandeep Lamichhane (7.5/10): The ability to rise up when the chips are down is the most essential ingredient in the making of a great player. And Lamichhane displayed this not once, but twice in this encounter. Despite Rahul’s early assault, the leggie lured him out with a floater, which turned and outfoxed the right-hander. Although Gayle dominated him with some belligerence, Lamichhane had the last laugh. He broke the KXIP’s spine by getting rid of Sam Curran in the same over and exposed the tail. He may have leaked runs, but got two big fish with his artistic leg-spin.

Ishant Sharma (7/10): The senior most bowler in Delhi Capitals dugout has finally started living to the expectations. He may not be among the wickets, but has kept things tight at his end. Ishant is currently debunking his tag of not being an effective T20 bowler and his numbers in recent games is a testament to it.
