When Andre Russell blitzed, Kolkata rose up in unison and gave him all the support he wanted to make sure that KKR romped home easily. Meanwhile, Nitish Rana and Robin Uthappa were the stars of the bat in the top order which made sure that the result was decided after the first innings only.

Chris Lynn (2/10): Another game and another failure for the lanky Australian. When Narine collected 25 runs in the previous over, why would you go after a bowler who was in form? KKR fans can brag about him as much as they want to, but it is a fact that he doesn’t know how to react under such situations. The manner of the dismissal is the reason why I am struggling to give him even a two.

Sunil Narine (6.5/10): Well, the role was to do pinch-hitting and he sent Varun Chakravarthy to the stars in that one over, which released a lot of pressure from Lynn who had to endure a one-run over against Mohammed Shami in the previous one. By taking down the spinners he did his job and even though his bowling was not close to the best, I won’t want to rate him down because of that.

Nitish Rana (8/10): This man is living a dream and today was just an extension of his purple patch, quite literally. After realizing that the wicket was quite easy to bat on, Rana took his chances and it paid off quite handsomely. His 63 was as good an innings as the one he scored against SRH in the previous game and if he continues doing this in future matches, KKR will have a cover for their weak bowling attack.

Robin Uthappa (8/10): This just goes on to prove that why KKR’s batting line-up is so celebrated in the tournament. After the top-order manages to go bonkers in the powerplay, Uthappa played a fine IPL innings in the company of Rana and proves that nothing can be traded with experience. This can be the strategy on which KKR will hope to win and they will be happy that Uthappa did exactly that.

Andre Russell (9/10): DreRuss, you beauty. A 17-ball 48 and two for 21 in three overs are the T20 matches players want to have against their name all the time. This is exactly why he is paid so heavily in T20 leagues and KKR knew that from the outset. Such a cricketer is always invaluable for any team and the Kolkata-based franchise should feel blessed that they have him in their line-up.

Dinesh Karthik (7/10): The KKR skipper did get to bat but could manage just a single on the only ball he faced. Where he does deserve a lot of credit is his astute plans behind the stumps as the captain. The idea of bringing Russell to bowl to Gayle was a tactical decision to exploit his weakness on the off-side and that alone was enough to get seven rating point.

Shubman Gill (6/10): After two sixes to close things off in the last game, Gill didn’t get to bat against Kings XI Punjab today. He must have hoped to play out a quality innings, but then again, if you have the pure muscle power of Russell, he is always going to be ahead on a batting friendly wicket.

Piyush Chawla (7.5/10): The veteran has been proving people wrong for what seems to be a century now. He might have had to share his overs with Narine but he outbowled the more famous spinner. Giving away just 13 runs in two overs was the highlight of his night while uprooting Mayank Agarwal’s leg stump was just the cherry on the top. With the match sealed before the last over, Karthik decided to throw him the ball which took the shine of his numbers. But how does that matter?

Kuldeep Yadav (7.5/10): One of those days where KKR’s every punt worked and Kuldeep Yadav had a very good day as well. His balls were literally unpredictable, something he has not been able to do in the purple and gold of KKR, and he beat the batsmen with his variations to finish with a bowling figure of 0/32. It could have been much better had Lockie Ferguson not dropped a catch in the deep.

Lockie Ferguson (5/10): After a couple of games, it looks like the 1.6 crs that KKR shelled out for the big Kiwi might be a steal. After Russell’s heroics in the first innings, Ferguson ensured that the momentum did not shift by dismissing the dangerous KL Rahul in his first over. While figures of 1/42 might not look to easy on the eye, considering the punishment that the quicks received on a dead pitch, it was a good performance.

Prasidh Krishna (4/10): Exactly the same performance as Ferguson, but the fact that he didn’t have any wickets to his name, it all came back to square one. Krishna was lethargic on the field and missed a catch in the process, but then again, that is cricket. Isn’t it?
