Losing the toss and being forced to bat first, RCB suffered an early setback as Faf du Plessis fell cheaply off Harshit Rana in the second over. Irrespective of the wicket, Virat Kohli and Cameron Green extracted 17 runs off the next over against Mitchell Starc and 15 runs against Sunil Narine to sum up a 61-run powerplay. Amidst the RCB assault, Anukul Roy conceded six runs in a couple of overs and Varun Chakravarthy leaked just three curtailing RCB to 85/2 in ten overs. A struggling Maxwell struck a six and four against Harshit Rana before Sunil Narine redeemed himself with his wicket for a simple catch drop. With the score reading 134/3 in 15 overs. Subsequently, Rajat Patidar and Anuj Rawat fell within the next three overs for just 19 runs before Dinesh Karthik and Kohli racked up 29 runs in the next two overs with four sixes amongst them, propelling the score to 182/6 in 20 overs.

Unlike their counterparts, KKR got off to a flying start courtesy of Phil Salt and Sunil Narine. The former smashed Mohammed Siraj for 18 runs in the first over while the latter joined the party from the other end. The Caribbean swashbuckler teed the RCB bowlers including a 21-run sixth over, to sum up, 85 runs in the powerplay. While the KKR openers fell after the field restrictions were lifted, the Iyer duo of Shreyas and Venkatesh took charge of the game brilliantly. Initially, the skipper played second fiddle to the southpaw with 20 runs coming off an Alzarri Joseph over with the score reading 132/2 in eleven overs. Despite 18 runs in the next three overs, the pair extracted 17 runs with Venkatesh racing to a 29-ball fifty before holing down to deep mid-wicket with 16 needed off 29 balls. Rinku entered the fray and assisted Shreyas to end the chase with a six, winning by seven wickets and 19 balls in hand. With this clinical win, KKR became the first team to win away matches in this year's IPL.
