Dinesh Karthik, 8-ball 29 (2 fours and 3 sixes), pulled off a heist in the Nidahas Trophy final as he helped India snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the final today. Earlier, Yuzvendra Chahal (3/18) and Washington Sundar (1/20) bowled beautifully to restrict Bangladesh to a score of 166/8.
Rohit Sharma – (8.5/10): Rohit Sharma roared back into form in the last game with a sublime 89 and continued his form and struck his second successive fifty. However, he fell trying to up the ante in the middle overs. His role as the captain cannot be questioned anymore after his decision making in the first innings today.
Shikhar Dhawan – (4/10): After a good run in the league stage of the tri-series, Dhawan failed to make a significant contribution in the final. He hit a six off his fifth delivery but was out caught at mid-off trying to attack Shakib Al Hasan. He did take a good catch to dismiss Soumya Sarkar in the 5th over of the Bangladesh innings though.
Suresh Raina – (3/10): After a good
KL Rahul – (7.5/10): Walking in to bat at No. 4, KL Rahul stabilized the innings along with Rohit Sharma after India had lost a couple of quick wickets. He scored a quick 14-ball 24. He struck 2 fours and 1 six before he got out to Rubel Hossain.
Manish Pandey – (5.5/10): Walking out to bat at No. 5 and with India 83/3, Manish Pandey scored a sluggish 27-ball 28. He struggled to rotate strike early on in his innings. He was 8 off 15 at one point. But struck 3 boundaries in the latter stages of his innings to keep India in the game. With the asking rate climbing, Pandey fell trying to go for the big shot.
Dinesh Karthik – (11/10): What a game Dinesh Karthik had! Coming in at No. 7, India needed 34 in 2 overs. He scored 22 runs in the 19th over as he struck Rubel Hossain for 2 sixes and 2 four. Then when 5 was required on the final ball, he struck a magnificent six over cover to win India the game as he finished with a splendid 8-ball 29. He was undoubtedly the hero of the game.
Vijay Shankar – (4/10): Vijay Shankar didn’t have the best of games. He was the bowler Bangladesh targeted early on to break the shackles. He gave away 14 runs in his first over which helped Bangladesh gain some momentum in the middle overs. He finished with 0/48 in his four overs and was the most expensive bowler of the day. Coming into bat at No. 6 (ahead of Karthik), Shankar struggled throughout his innings. However, in his 19-ball 17, he scored a crucial boundary in the final boundary before getting out on the penultimate delivery.
Washington Sundar – (9/10): Washington Sundar continued to impress. Once again, he started off with an excellent spell in the powerplay. He also picked up the wicket of Liton Das in his second over and finished his spell economically. His figures read 1/20 in fours overs. He ended the tournament with 8 wickets at an economy of 5.7 and won the Man of the series award.
Shardul Thakur – (3/10): It was once again a night to forget for Shardul Thakur. The Mumbai pacer was taken for runs in the opening game and India’s last group-stage game. He was once again taken to the cleaners. He started well, with a 6-run over. But he leaked a lot of runs at the death. Thakur gave away 18 runs in the last over of the innings and it helped Bangladesh to get over the 160-mark.
Jaydev Unadkat – (7/10): The Saurashtra left-arm pacer had taken 5 wickets in 3 games, but he was pretty expensive as well. He was once again expensive in the powerplay as he gave away 22 runs in the two overs he bowled in the first six. However, he came back brilliantly. After conceding 8 runs in his third over, Unadkat bowled a superb 19th over. He gave away just 3 runs and picked up two wickets including the one of the well-set Sabbir Rahman. He finished with 2/33.
Yuzvendra Chahal – (9.5/10): After picking up 5 wickets in 4 games in this tournament, Yuzvendra Chahal came into his own in the final. His figures of 3/18 are the 5th best in a T20 International final. He picked the wickets of Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar
