Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 7 – Captain Picks

A tough run of fixtures and the season of the defender hasn’t turned up, which has brought about a fantasy manager’s biggest problem, the captain. With one big game, one tough game, and just three games for the top six among others, it will see managers panic and switch options before the deadline.

The Sensible Choice

Mohamed Salah

If there was a player you could permanently pick and forget as your FPL captain, it would have to be the Egyptian king. Never mind the fact that Salah has just four goals in six games, a figure that includes a brace against Arsenal, and has produced just one blank gameweek so far.

The Egyptian is still looking for a goal on the road but he does have two assists to his name and against a tough Sheffield United defense, he could be your answer. His tally of 14 goal contributions on the road last term was only beaten by Callum Wilson and Harry Kane. Not even Sergio Aguero came close, there is still a question as to whether he’s worth the lofty price-tag.

Well just imagine this he has 50 points so far and only three players outscore him, with Aguero topping that list with 55. Not a bad choice for a keep and forget captain.

Sergio Aguero

An 8-0 thrashing of Watford and yet the Argentine walked away with just one goal to his name, not the best night for him, but Kevin De Bruyne had a ball. That might change, with Manchester City now after Everton and their goal-hungry defense. The Toffees started out well, but after two clean sheets in a row, they’ve opted to throw everything away.

What it does mean, is the fact that Everton have failed to stop Wolves, Aston Villa, Bournemouth and even Sheffield United from scoring against them, so what chance do they have against Manchester City?? It makes for great reading and Aguero’s total of 19 shots inside the box is six more than any other player has managed.

Oh and combine that with Kevin De Bruyne’s red hot form, David Silva’s red hot form and Manchester City’s form, which makes him a sure pick.

The Differential Pick

Son Heung-Min

Another week and Son Heung-Min is under yet another differential category. That’s because Tottenham’s form this season has been horrendous and their players have suffered. Harry Kane managed just a goal the last time out, while Son, who has been rather brilliant, has managed to net just two goals and create two more. Not the greatest statistic, but a mid-week loss to League Two side Colchester United might change a lot for Tottenham.

They were mocked and criticised, which could evoke a reaction from the club and with Son in line to start once again, it could be him running the show yet again. The South Korean has been by far the best Tottenham player in the Premier League by a large margin and probably the only one who deserves to be in an FPL team. A choice to think about for sure.

Trent Alexander Arnold

Part of the marauding full-back brothers at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is expensive. And not just expensive, the man is very very expensive. So expensive that it often forces FPL managers to actually think and then double-check if they really want to bring him in. But so far, the young full-back has not disappointed, not at all. Well barring the fact that Liverpool cannot keep a clean sheet, Alexander-Arnold has made that easier by creating two goals and scoring another.

It puts only John Lundstram ahead of him when it comes to most points scored, only by one. But with Sheffield United next for Jurgen Klopp and co, Liverpool’s right-back is a good choice as a captain. Risky but a good choice, because no FPL defender has fired more shots on goal, has attempted 18 assists and has had two big chances. All this and he’s still playing as a right-back, so there’s that chance of a clean sheet and bonus points.

The Brave Pick

Tammy Abraham

One of the many breakout stars of these first few weeks in a new fantasy season, Tammy Abraham has had a brilliant start to his life as Chelsea’s number 9. Seven goals in six games, including a hattrick against Wolverhampton Wanderers, makes him arguably one of the only must have men on your FPL team-sheet. But with a few other options out there, it’s not surprising that managers are still deciding.

But with the Blues facing Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend, Abraham has to at the very least make your eyes when it comes to a potential captain pick. The Seagulls have looked good under Graham Potter, but they’ve been far from good under Potter. So far they’ve conceded 8 goals in the Premier League, with Manchester City and Southampton scoring 6 goals, and Villa put three past them in the Carabao Cup.

The Blues need to make up for that loss to Liverpool and the best possible way to do that, is by thoroughly beating Brighton.
