The good thing about a brilliant fielding side is that they manage to produce a wicket or two with their magnificence. Steve Smith produced one such wicket with his sharp fielding to end Mohammad Nabi’s run early and tightened the noose around Afghanistan in their opening game at Bristol.

Afghanistan got off to a shaky start after losing wickets in heap against the new ball as they were precariously placed at 75 for 4 inside 20 overs. Australian bowlers were making things difficult for them by picking wickets at regular intervals as their counter-parts were in desperate need of a partnership. Nabi had bid enough time out in the middle and was trying his best to bail the team out of choppy waters.

On the second delivery of the 21st over, Nabi pushed the ball towards covers and looked to snatch a single, but Steve Smith’s electrifying fielding resulted in a wicket. He dived and managed to stop the ball, which resulted in a horrible mix-up between Nabi and Naib with the former failing short of his crease as Smith threw it comfortable in keeper’s hand.

Earlier, Smith also took a wonderful catch at covers to get rid of Rahmat Shah and gave a testament to his skilful fielding.
