West Indies skipper Jason Holder stated that senior players of the squad Chris Gayle and Andre Russell will be hundred percent fit for the second game of their World Cup campaign on Thursday. The pair played a crucial role in the victory against Pakistan but picked up slight niggles in the course.

West Indies kick started their campaign by registering a comfortable victory against Pakistan on the back of star performances from their veterans. While Andre Russell’s fiery spell full off lethal bouncers saw him taking two crucial wickets in just three overs, Gayle put any remaining doubts to bed with a characteristic quick fire fifty of just 33 balls.

However, as the innings progressed, a 39 year old Gayle was seen struggling when trying to run between the wickets and on being dismissed, he limped back to the dressing room, his legs clearly having some problem. Even Russell had shown some signs of an injury and rumour had it that a former knee injury had been aggravated.

However, Russell said that the 5 day break was more than enough for him to recover, while Holder said that Gayle would get enough rest before the second match to be in peak condition to face the reigning World Champions. With the way in which they won their first match, they would be hoping to continue their good form and end up on the winning side against the Kangaroos.
