After dropping himself to No.4 so as to accommodate KL Rahul in the team, Virat Kohli today changed his style of play altogether. When the Indian skipper pulled off the AB de Villiers’ back scoop to perfection, Rahul couldn’t control himself and gave him a cheeky smile for the shot.

Both KL Rahul and Virat Kohli had played together for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League and both are very much in the know how AB de Villiers operates. His 360-degree scoring changed the very parameters of batting, and not least, the relationship between the batsman and bowler. It is now established that Kohli has learnt some shots from the South African which was on show in Mohali.

With Jason Behrendorff dissing out some short stuff, Kohli was in control over his shots. However, on the last ball of the 39th over, it was way too short for him to play out the delivery as he decided to duck it. To pull that off, Kohli walked across the stumps while keeping his eye on the ball, and in the last moment, he released his bat in the vertical direction to ramp it towards the leg-side.

The clear understanding of the field position and the trajectory of the ball helped the Indian skipper as he was completely effortless in his manner and even for a second, he didn’t doubt himself. The ball hit his bat in the middle and crossed fine leg for a four. It seemed like a plan as Rahul had a cheeky smile on his face, a sign of successfully doing something when no one else would have imagined.
