VIDEO | Rohit Sharma vents his frustration on pads after missing out on ton in Mohali

Rohit Sharma looked to be in ominous touch today and was well set for his first century since his 100 in Perth against Australia in January. However, he miscued a shot to deep mid-wicket, only to be caught by Peter Handscomb, and after that, he was so angry that he smashed his bat on his pads.

In tennis, smashing the racquet has been an offence which has restricted some players from pulling off the act to vent out after a game. However, there has been no such rule in cricket and gradually, we are seeing these things happening on a regular basis when a batsman is dismissed despite being well-set in the middle.

The way Rohit Sharma was batting today, it was very hard to imagine that any bowler could have got the better of him. The fluidity that typically signifies a Rohit acceleration was entirely there and a four to Jhye Richardson on the penultimate delivery of the 31st over just proved the fact. However, in order to get past the 100-run mark quickly, which is again a typical Rohit thing to do, he was dismissed on the very next ball of the over.

Richardson bowled a short ball on the body and the fact that it didn’t have enough pace to intimidate, the Indian vice-captain got himself into the perfect position to hit the pull shot. However, his rotation was not that prominent to take the mid-wicket out of the equation and the lack of pace failed to take it out of the ground as well.

Peter Handscomb, who was fielding to the wide of mid-wicket, got hold of the catch easily to send Rohit Sharma packing at 95. Rohit was completely furious at himself and smashed his bat into the pads in anger. Even when Shikhar Dhawan came forward to pat on his back so as to congratulate for his century, Rohit was not interested in receiving any praise from his partner.
