Manchester United are considering offering manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer transfer funds to reinforce his midfield in January, with the board aware of their struggles. The club was linked with moves for both Bruno Fernandes and Sean Longstaff but failed in their attempts to sign either midfielder.

English news outlet Manchester Evening News has reported that Manchester United could offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a chance to sign a new midfielder in January. The Red Devils failed to sign at least one new midfielder during the summer, reinforcing their defense instead. However, given their performances and a subsequent meeting between Solskjaer and Ed Woodward, the club is considering giving the Norwegian a chance to add a new midfielder.

All three of their summer additions have been the club’s best players, with Daniel James flourishing for both club and country. But, on the other hand, their midfielders have struggled to make any significant impact, with Paul Pogba the lone exception. Yet Solskjaer has insisted that with time, everyone will hit the right gear and has further dismissed any concerns about squad depth.

The report from the Manchester Evening News further claims that the board are weighing up offers for Sean Longstaff, with Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen still also on their shortlist. Moves for any of the three midfielders failed this summer, but with Romelu Lukaku’s £73 million transfer fee burning a hole in their pockets, the Red Devils could change that stance in 2020.
