Chennai can proudly boast of so many things that have always enriched Indian cricketing folklore. From the standing ovation to Pakistan team to applauding any good innings by foreign players, Chennai again showcased an instance by chanting for an underpressure Rishabh Pant, who played stunningly.

With the trend of booing Rishabh Pant, one of the country’s own, reaching a fever pitch in the country, with the youngster being booed at almost all venues, Chennai had a reputation to save. It was “Thala’s own den” yet they accorded Pant with the amount of respect that added another sweet chapter in the story of “Knowledgeable Chennai crowds”.

Pant played an innings of magnificence, judged the wicket perfectly and didn’t let the slowness of the wicket get the better of him. With every stroke, there was a sense of assuredness, which for a change, was so refreshing to see. That brought the crowd on his side as the fans present in the stadium started cheering for him at the top of their lungs.

As the Delhite hit Pollard for a four through cover on the third ball of the 34th over, crowd started chanting “Rishabh Pant, Rishabh Pant” at the top of their voice, justifying their tag that had been bestowed on them 20 years ago, after a rather unique situation of giving standing ovation to a team that happened to be India’s archrivals.

Whadda gesture by Chepauk crowd!💛
