Top-order batsman Mayank Agarwal was born in Bangalore on February 16 of the year 1991. He is a professional cricketer who has represented India in Test and One-Day International cricket. He is a part of Karnataka in domestic cricket, Agarwal made his International cricket debut while playing a test match against Australia on the 26th of December 2018. He scored a triple ton in first-class cricket while playing an outstanding inning of 304 runs not out against Maharashtra while playing for Karnataka. He also achieved the milestone of scoring the first thousand runs in first-class cricket. Mayank Agarwal was also a leading run-scorer of the Ranji season 2017-18, scoring a total of 1160 runs. He became a part of India’s squad in September 2018 for a Test series that was going to be played against West Indies but could not play in the matches. In the same year, he was included in India’s squad for a test series against Australia when Prithvi Shaw met an injury and got ruled out of the series. Agarwal made his test debut against Australia and played a wonderful inning of 76 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground also known as MCG. He also made a record for scoring the highest number of runs in a test debut on the land of Australia by breaking the previous record of Dattu Phadkar, who made 51 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in the year 1947. Agarwal also played the fourth test of the series and scored a total of 195 runs in the test series against Australia. Vijay Shankar was ruled out from the India’s squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 which was played in England, and Mayank Agarwal became a part of the team by replacing Vijay Shankar in the World Cup squad. Mayank Agarwal scored his maiden test century while playing against South Africa in October 2019. He converted his maiden test century to his first double ton in the red ball format of the game and scored a total of 215 runs in 371 balls, he made this huge total by hitting 29 beautiful boundaries including 23 fours and 6 massive sixes. He also became the second Indian opener to hit back-to-back centuries against South Africa in Test cricket after Virender Sehwag. While playing against Bangladesh at Holkar Stadium Indore in November 2019, Mayank Agarwal hit his second double ton in the game that too without playing even 10 games in Test Cricket.
Mayank Agarwal’s Indian Premier League journey started when he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 4th edition of the Indian Premier League in cricket 2011 at his base price of Rs.10 lakhs. He got 7 innings to play in the year 2011 where he scored 141 runs in total scoring 41 the highest in the season. He was a part of the Royals Challengers Bangalore from the 4th season of the league to the sixth edition i.e 2011-13. However, he got only 5 opportunities to play in the Indian Premier League season 6. IPL 2019 season was quite good for the player where he received the maximum number of chances to showcase his talent as a promising batter while playing for Punjab Kings in the 2021 IPL season he scored 441 runs which was his highest season score ever in the Indian Premier League. He played for the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL 2022 season and got sufficient opportunities to showcase his talent, his highest score came against the Mumbai Indians where he scored 53 runs in just 32 balls. Agarwal is playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023, he was bought by the franchise at a huge amount of 8.25 crores.
