Indian shuttlers through to quarters at Macau Open

Ace Indian shuttler P V Sindhu, along with B Sai Praneeth and H S Prannoy each produced brilliant performances to sail into the last-8 stage of the $120,000 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold 2015 on Thursday.

World No. 12 P V Sindhu defeated Lindaweni Fanetri 21-17, 21-18 to storm into the quarter-final. The Hyderabad lass registered her second victory over the Indonesian this year after a win at the Yonex Open Chinese Taipei to reach a head-to-head record of 7-2 against Fanetri. The fifth seeded Indian, will next play Chen Yufei from China.

On the men's side, H S Prannoy seeded seventh in the tournament, came back from a set down to defeat Qiao Bin from China in 48 minutes. Prannoy handed the first game 12-21 but changed his fortunes in the second game, as he played a top notch game to win it 21-11. The decider was a tight contest, as the game was a neck-to-neck encounter. The Indian, ranked 20th in the world, proved his dominance as he held his nerves to close the match 21-19. Prannoy next takes on Ihsan Maulana Mustofa from Malaysia.

B Sai Praneeth, ranked 33, got the better of A K Tedjono in two ephemeral sets 21-15, 21-6 in 31 minutes to move into the next round. The Indian won his second consecutive match against the Indonesian to lead 2-1 in head-to-head. Sai will face-off against Goh Soon Huat of Malaysia in his quarter-final match on Friday.
