Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal said on Thursday that she is currently focussing on strengthening and recovery from her foot injury ahead of the crucial Olympics year.

The World No.2, who missed the inaugural match of the Premier Badminton League (2016) due to the injury, is keen to be fit and strong before the Olympics.

“Right now I cannot say anything. It will not be right to say anything about any tournament. First of all, I have to make myself strong and fit and then I can think of what I can do in tournaments. I am happy that I am able to play in the PBL even without training. I am in bad shape, but I am happy to pull off some matches,” said Saina during an interaction following Lucknow's victory over Bengaluru, reported The Hindu.

Saina made her comeback in the PBL against Delhi Acers on Monday and registered a comfortable victory over P C Thulasi. However, the 2012 Olympics bronze medallist found it tough against Bengaluru Topguns’ Suo Di before getting to a win in a tight three-set affair.

“Even though I was out of touch, because of my strengthening and gym workout, my body was in some condition to play,” said Saina, reported The Hindu.

When asked about her participation in the remaining matches, Saina said she would have to look at her fitness before deciding to play.

“The injury gets affected when you play tough matches... Still, it is more stable now. Let’s see how it develops in the next few days,” reported The Hindu.

The 25-year old also added that she is hopeful of a good Indian showing at Rio Olympics, which is scheduled to held in August.
