Indian ace shuttler Kidambi Srikanth is hoping to win an Olympic medal in his first appearance at the quadrennial event at Rio 2016. The 23-year old also spoke on how he plans to keep himself in shape and train hard in the run-up to be ready for the Games later in August this year.

"I love playing this sport. I'm really passionate about it and winning. Getting the Olympic medal, that's the ultimate dream for any sportsperson. I just want to win the medal at this Olympics," said the young badminton star, speaking to the media in Mumbai on Saturday.

Ranked 12th in the world, and the highest-ranked Indian male shuttler, Srikanth will be the only representative for India in the men’s singles event in Rio. "Qualifying is always the first step. Now that I have achieved it, I'm thinking only about winning the medal now," said Srikanth.

With the Indonesia Open later this month, Srikanth is focussed on keeping himself in shape and staying fit. "I just want to focus on very little things before the Olympics, just to keep my body fit. I have got three and a half weeks for the Indonesian Open which is a very good time for training because in the last four to six months, I never got four weeks for training. So I'm just thinking of working on physical aspects to keep me fit for the Olympics," added the Guntur-born player.
