BWF US Open | Kashyap and Prannoy through to the semifinals

Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap defeated Sameer Verma in straight sets 21-13, 21-16 to seal a berth in the semi-final of the US Open. Meanwhile, HS Prannoy joined Kashyap after as overcame Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama 10-21, 21-15, 21-18.

Kashyap reached the semifinals after registering a win over his Indian counterpart Verma. The gold medalist of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games thrashed fifth seed Verma in straight sets  21-13, 21-16. In the next round, he will face Korean player Kwang Hee Heo. 

Prannoy continued his winning momentum and brushed aside Japan’s Tsuneyama 10-21, 21-15, 21-18. The second seeded Indian will face 15th seeded Vietnam’s Tien Minh Nguyen in the semifinals.

Indian players assured a successful day for the country as third seeds Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy won their men’s doubles match. The Indian duo defeated the Japanese pair of Hiroki Okamura and Masayuki Onodera in straight sets 21-18, 22-20. In their semifinal clash, they will face top seeds, Chinese Taipei duo of Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han.
