Sindhu was the heavy favorite going into the game but Jindapol, in the first game, made sure that the Indian was always at a touching distance. The Thai shuttler even took a two-point lead at 16-14 only to lose the next six in a row to hand the Indian four game points. Even though she was able to pull it back to 20-20, Sindhu won the next two points on offer to secure the first game. In the second game, the Thai player kept Sindhu honest in the earlier part of the game till the scores reached 8-8. However, once the Indian opened up a two-point lead, the result look assured, even when Jindapol leveled the game at 15-15. Sindhu eventually ended up winning the game 21-17 to set up a quarter final match against Japan's Minatsu Mitani.

Sameer trailed for a majority of the first game and came level for the first time at 12-12. However, as the game progressed Sameer seemed to grow in confidence and went on to claim the first game 21-19. The second game started as a tight affair as well but once the Indian took the lead at 11-10, he didn't look back, winning 10 of the next 13 points to book a semi-final date against local favourite Son Wan Ho, who beat Parupalli Kashyap 21-16, 17-21, 21-16 in the round of 16.

Along with Kashyap, it was curtains for B Sai Praneeth who fought hard but ended up bowing out to of the competition to Tzu Wei Wang in straight sets of 13-21, 24-26.

In men's doubles event, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty produced an upset eliminating the seventh seeded team of Lee Jhe-Huei and Lee Yang 23-21, 16-21, 21-8.
