Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy slipped to 7th and 13th spot

Kidambi Srikanth, who recently won Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the year 2017 award for winning four Superseries titles last year and being the first male player to reach the No. 1 in rankings, is yet play a game since Asia Championship in April. His Indian compatriot HS Prannoy, who won US Open title last year, opted not to defend his title this year.

The rest taken by these Indian shuttlers in order keep themselves fresh for the upcoming Asian Games seem to have affected their rankings as Kidambi Srikanth slipped from World No. 4 to be ranked 7th while HS Prannoy slipped from World No. 8 to be ranked No 13th.

Srikanth, who won the silver medal in 2018 Commonwealth Games, lost in the quarterfinals to Lee Chong Wei in Asia Championship and has not participated in any event since then. Prannoy, who won bronze in the same event decided not play US Open title which meant he would lose the points that he won last year.

2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap, who had reached the finals of the US Open last year, meanwhile, crashed out of the top 50 after he couldn't play at the tournament following an injury. He is now at the 51st spot.

Former world no 13 Ajay Jayaram, who had slipped out of the top 100 after missing in action due to a long injury lay-off following a hamstring injury, was rewarded for his semifinal finish at the US Open. He jumped 39 places to be at the 95th spot.

In the women's singles, Commonwealth silver medallist PV Sindhu and gold medallist Saina Nehwal continued to remain static at the 3rd and 10th spot respectively as Sindhu reached the semifinals of All England Open while Saina reached semis of Asia Championship following Gold Coast games.
