PV Sindhu suffers injury scare ahead of CWG 2018
Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has suffered a sprain in her right ankle while practicing at the Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad. However, India’s flag-bearer for the upcoming Commonwealth Games has revealed that it is not a major injury and she will start practicing in the days to come.
One of India’s biggest medal hopes in the upcoming Commonwealth Games, PV Sindhu survived an injury scare while she was training at the Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad on Tuesday, March 27. However, the good news for all Indian fans is that there is no immediate threat to her participation in the Commonwealth Games which starts on April 4.
The Olympic silver medallist suffered an ankle sprain towards the end of her practice session on Tuesday. She hobbled off the court in the company of coach Pullela Gopichand and physio Gayathri Shetty. There were ice packs around her ankle as she was being taken off the court.
However, the MRI scans didn’t reveal any serious injury which indicated that the World No. 3 would most likely be fit for the Commonwealth Games. Sindhu was relieved that there was nothing serious.
“Thankfully, there is no major injury. I am relieved and since it’s not a major injury, I’ll resume practice soon,” Sindhu said, reported TOI.
Sindhu’s father PV Ramana could also breathe a sigh of relief when the MRI results came out. He later revealed that Sindhu will start practicing again from March 29 (Thursday).
“It was just a mild sprain. She will start practising again from March 29. Initially, I was a bit worried as she has injured her ankle a couple of times before. Before the Rio Olympics, she had recovered from a major leg injury. Thank God there is no such thing now,” Sindhu’s father PV Ramana said.
Sindhu, who won a bronze in the last edition of the Commonwealth Games, would be looking to better her performance this time around.
