Dutch Open 2018 | Parupalli Kashyap, Sourabh Verma continue good run in round two

Indian singles player, Parupalli Kashyap put in an impressive display to beat Denmark’s Viktor Svendsen by a scoreline of 25-23, 21-12 in the second round of the 2018 Dutch Open on Thursday night. Kashyap, seeded eighth in the competition, was made to work in the first game, but got to his usual best in the second to walk away with a comfortable win. 

His compatriot, Sourabh Verma, who put in a decent performance in round one to beat Bulgaria’s Dimitar Yanakiev, repeated the same with Sri Lanka’s Niluka Karunaratane. Verma defeated his counterpart by a comfortable score of 21-9, 21-16 to secure a spot in the third round of the Dutch Open. Meanwhile, Subhankar Dey bowed out of the tournament after he suffered a 21-9, 21-19 to Malaysia’s June Wei Cheam.

However, in the women’s section, it was the end of the round for Sai Uttejitha Rao who was knocked out of the competition by fourth-ranked Neslihan Yigit of Turkey. Rao fell to a narrow 22-20 defeat in the first game but lost the second a score of 21-13 in favour of her Turkish counterpart.

Seventh-seed men’s double duo of Arjun M.R. and Ramachandran Shlok beat the British pair of Peter Briggs and Gregory Mairs in successive sets by a score of 21-18, 21-19. The Indian contingent suffered another loss as women’s doubles duo of Kuhoo Garg and Saili Rane were knocked out by Danish Duo of Alexandra Boje and Sara Lundgaard by a margin of 21-12, 21-18.
