Saina Nehwal managed to reach the semifinals of the 2019 Indonesia Masters tournament even as lone men’s category Indian Kidambi Srikanth crashed out of the event in the quarterfinals. In another women’s singles match India’s PV Sindhu lost to Carolina Marine without posing a huge challenge.

Saina Nehwal won her quarterfinal match of the 2019 Indonesia Masters tournament against Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in straight games of 21-7, 21-18. In the Men’s side of the draw, Kidambi Srikanth went down against Jonatan Christie in straight games 21-18, 21-19. Another contender for India in women’s category, PV Sindhu lost against Carolina Marin pretty tamely 21-11, 21-12.

Saina did not face any sort of challenge in the first game of the match against her Thai opponent as she cruised to seven points lead at the midgame break in the first game. The same story unfolded as the youngster Chochuwong was no match for Saina’s experience and had to yield at 7-21. In the second the Thai girl tried to pose a challenge but was thwarted by Saina who bagged the match in 33 minutes.

Kidambi Srikanth fought hard in both the games of the match against Jonatan Christie of Indonesia but lost out on both the occasions. While in the first game Srikanth went down from being in lead at 18-16 at one point, in the second game he came very close to defeating Christie before succumbing to the Indonesian.

For Sindhu, it was a forgettable day as she was trounced by a fiery Carolina Marin 21-11, 21-12. Sindhu looked second best from the word go as she never led in the whole match - neither in the first game nor in the second. The Spanish shuttler took just 37 minutes to take the match.
