Canada Open | Parupalli Kashyap loses to unseeded Li Shi Feng in Final

The former Commonwealth Games gold medalist had reached the summit clash of a tournament after a year and looked in really good form after overcoming the steep challenge of the Taiwanese star in the last round. However, form wasn’t enough to take the 32-year-old past an unseeded Li Shi Feng on Sunday.

The sixth seeded Indian shuttler did show persistence, as was the case the whole of last week, but ended up losing the match 22-20 14-21 17-21 that last an hour and 16 minutes.

Kashyap had compatriot and teammate HS Prannoy staying back to help him with on court coaching and was even seen playing the physio role after coach Amrish Shinde and Sumansh Sivalanka left early for the US Open World Tour Super 300 tournament.

The injury plagued player had to play consecutive three-game matches against China's Ren Peng Bo, France's Lucas Claerbout and Chinese Taipei's Wang Tzu Wei in the run-up to his last match, which clearly took a toll on him. Kashyap had last reached the semis of the India Open early this year and this has been his best performance this season, so far.
