India started well in the Super 500 event in the absence of big stars with the likes of Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal, HS Prannoy, many more advancing into the second round. However, with numerous Indian participants, there were casualties too that included brothers Sameer Verma and Sourabh Verma.

After two horrible outings in the Indonesia and Japan open, Kidambi Srikanth finally saw things going his way but not before a small hurdle as he got the better of China’s Ren Peng Bo 21-13, 17-21, 21-19. The top-ranked Indian shuttler will take on Thailand’s Khosit Phetpradab.

Saina Nehwal, who had pulled out of both the abovementioned tournaments, finally made an appearance to keep herself in the groove with the World Championships coming up. She defeated another local Phittayaporn Chaiwan 21-17, 21-19. She would be facing Sayaka Takahasi.

Among other men’s singles shuttler, Prannoy defeated Hong Kong’s Wong Ki Vincent 21-16, 22-20 while Parupalli Kashyap got the better of Misha Zilberman 18-21, 21- 8, 21-14. B Sai Praneeth had a tricky task against Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangchareon, but he managed to finish it with a 17-21, 21-17, 21-15 win. However, the luckiest guy in the tournament was Subhankar Dey, who got a walkover by World No.1 Kento Momota.

India’s doubles duos also had a great day in office as the mixed doubles pairs Ashwini Ponnappa/Swastksairaj Rankireddy and N Sikki Reddy/ Pranaav Jerry Chopra both won their respective matches.
