Korea Open | Parupalli Kashyap defeats Daren Liew, reaches quarterfinal

India’s only remaining competitor in the tournament continued marching on and comprehensively against his Malaysian opponent as the gruelling match lasted 56 minutes. The Indian was leading 16-11 in the first game before the Malaysian turned on the heat to make it 15-16. But, Kashyap survived the scare by winning three consecutive points and win the game.

However, it had taken a lot from him as the Indian was visibly struggling to return in the second game Liew wasn’t letting this opportunity pass and he quickly raced on to a 13-2 lead giving no scope whatsoever to the Indian.

The match went to the decider and Kashyap had preserved his energy by then. He skyrocketed to a 12-2 lead before registering an easy victory against Liew. The Indian would next be facing former world No.2 Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark, who defeated beat eighth seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in his path to the quarters. 

"It will be a good match. He (Jan) beat Ginting, so he is in good form... It will be a tough match. Let's see," Kashyap said, reported TOI.

However, the task would only get steeper for the Indian here as winning against Jorgensen would see him facing two-time world champion Kento Momota in the semifinals. In other matches, World No.2 Tien Chen Chou of Chinese Taipei, Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Tapei and Indonesians Shesar Hiren Rhustavito and Jonatan Christie have made it to the last eight.
