I talk only in the ring : Vijender Singh laughs off Hyuseinov
Indian pugilist Vijender Singh will face Bulgarian brute Samet Hyuseinov in his third pro boxing bout on December 19 at the Manchester Arena in England as he gears up for his title fight next year. In the build-up to the fight, Vijender has laughed off Hyuseinov’s threat of sending the Indian boxer back to his home country “beaten and broken.”
“How do you respond to such threats? I can only laugh, let him say what he feels like. He has all the freedom to say what he wants. But I talk only in the ring and in a language he will understand quite well,” the former Olympic and World Championship bronze-medallist told PTI.
In the build-up to the fight, Bulgarian Samet Hyuseinov had played down Vijender's chances of getting a shot at the title next year by threatening to send the Indian pugilist back home “beaten and broken.”
"Vijender Singh has never, never met anyone like me and he will realise what it is like with a real professional on the 19th December.”
"How can he look to fight for titles next year when he's only had two fights and four rounds? He thinks that I'm some fool he's going to just knock over easily. I will take great delight in handing Vijender Singh his first loss and sending him back home to India beaten and broken.”
"In fact I will tell you what I will do to him, I will smash him to the body to loosen him up and then a right hand to knock him out, just watch me," the Bulgarian said.
Vijender Singh has had a great opening in pro boxing defeating Briton Sonny Whiting through a technical knockout at the same Manchester Arena for his first win. In his second bout, he KO'd Dean Gillen in the first round. However, the Bulgarian is expected to be a much tougher opponent having fought 14 bouts and winning seven of them.
However, Vijender is not worried about the experienced boxer.
“If he is experienced, than I am no less. I am an Olympic medallist. Obviously he is more experienced in the pro circuit but I am experienced enough not to be affected by it,” he told PTI.
Vijender also shared his preparations for the fight and said that apart from increased sparring sessions, nothing much has changed in relation to training.
“My focus is on endurance and power and for that I am sparring a lot more. I have longer sparring sessions against guys who are competing in WBO. So, I get thrashed a lot but all of it is helping me,” he told PTI.
“But after the bout I am looking forward to a nice New Year celebration,” he added.
