Strandja Memorial Boxing | Indian boxers continue their magnificent run to assure five medals

Amit Panghal had survived the battle against Ukraine’s Nazar Kurotchyn in the 49kg category by defeating the opponent 3-2 which confirms the semifinal berth and a medal. Commonwealth Games medallists, Gaurav Solanki, and Naman Tanwar also qualified for the quarter-finals in their respective categories.

Indian women boxers too had a great day as they assured four medals for India at the Strandja Memorial Boxing on Sunday. Lovlina Borgohain ousted Brazil’s Soarez Beatriz with a scintillating display which fetched the first medal for the women boxers.

Manju Rani too had thrashed Bonati Roberta of Italy in a one-sided encounter as she defeated her counterpart 5-0 and the present National Champion sealed a spot in the 48 kg semi-finals. Former world junior champion Nikhat Zareen and Neeraj had emerged victorious as they outclassed their opponents with similar results in their respective categories to assure five medals for India at the end of the day.

However, 2016 World Championship silver medallist, Sonia Lather went down 1-4 to Ramirez Yarisel of the USA in the 57kg category. In the men’s round, Ulaan Baatar Cup gold winner, Ankush Dahiya was defeated by Macedonia’s Jasin Ljama. India’s best haul at the event was 11 medals which included two gold metals.
