Santiago Nieva and Karanjeet Singh find place in ASBC commissions

High-Performance Director of Indian Boxing Santiago Nieva found a place in the coaches' commission of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC). Sweden-based Nieva had big boots to fill when he was appointed by the Boxing Federation of India in 2017 as Dronacharya awardee BI Fernandez’s successor as India coach.

At the time, the 42-year-old entered the Indian setup when the federation was going through a revamp after close to four years of administrative turmoil. Nieva’s methods have garnered widespread praise, be it his use of technology, man-management skills, in-ring skills or eye for detail, something that many of his wards had vouched for leading up the Games.

An impressive showing in the World Championships this year saw India produce their best performance ever by securing silver and a bronze through Amit Panghal (52kg) and Manish Kaushik (63kg) respectively

Dr. Karanjeet Singh, who has been a part of the men’s national camp for over a decade, was inducted into the medical commission of the ASBC.

The Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC), which earlier named veteran Kishan Narsi as chairman of its competitions commission, has included Assam Boxing Association Secretary Hemanta Kumar Kalita in its youth commission. Narendra Kumar Nirwan was India’s representative in the refereeing and judging commission.
