Sinquefield Cup | Viswanathan Anand maintains joint lead after draw

After playing out a draw against Italian turned American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana on Friday, and defeating world number two Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France on Saturday, India’s Viswanathan Anand maintained his joint lead at the top of the standings after a draw against Hikaru Nakamura. A fascinating struggle took place between the two in the middle and with both of them not ready to give up, the match ended in a draw. Anand, who had played a defensive game in his first two matches against Fabiano Caruana and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, deployed the same tactics against the American, but failed to find a way past him.

With the draw, Anand maintained his position at the joint-top position with two points. Wesley So, Levon Aronian, and Veselin Topalov are also on two points with six more rounds remaining in the tournament. Anand will next face Chinses Chess Grandmaster Ding Liren in the Round 4 match today.
