Vishwanathan Anand's position in the 10-man Altibox Norway Chess tournament further deteriorated after he registered his second loss against Anish Giri yesterday at Stavanger.
Anand, playing on the black side of the table gave up his Bishop pair early courtesy some energetic play by Giri in the first game. In the second, Giri took the remaining Bishop pair by the 17th move to enjoy a double Bishop versus two knights position. The computer algorithm suggested an even battle which did not turn out to be as anticipated and Giri had the upper hand by the 27th move which resulted in Anand bowing out in the 33rd.
Earlier in the tournament, Anand suffered a second round defeat at the hands of the old foe, Vladimir Kramnik of Russia who emerged with 1.5 points at the end of their battle.
