Croatia Grand Chess Tour | Fifth round ends in a draw for Viswanathan Anand

Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand finished his fifth round at the Grand Chess Tour in Croatia with a 43-move draw against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave from France. Dutch player - Anish Giri, on the other hand, lost his match against China’s Ding Liren in 64 moves at the same competition.

Anand played out his fourth draw at the Grand Chess Tour as the game against French chess player Maxime Vachier-Lagrave ended in a deadlock. Ding Liren was the only winner in the tournament on the day as he got the better of Anish Giri in 64 moves on Monday. Russia’s Ian Nepomniachtchi is still ahead with four points from the Chinese player.

Earlier in the tournament, the Indian chess legend had played out a draw against American chess player Wesley So in the fourth round. The fourth round of the tour was the only round which saw all the games ending in a draw.

The results (fifth round): Viswanathan Anand (2) drew with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (Fra, 2.5); Hikaru Nakamura (USA, 2) drew with Ian Nepomniachtchi (Rus, 4); Sergey Karjakin (Rus, 2.5) drew with Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 3); Fabiano Caruana (USA, 2.5) drew with Wesley So (USA,3); Anish Giri (Ned, 1.5) lost to Ding Liren (Chn, 2.5); Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze, 2) drew with Levon Aronian (Arm, 2.5).
