Indian hockey team's analytical coach Chris Ciriello on Wednesday said his task, apart from improving the team's drag-flicking, is also to inculcate winning habit among players. The former Australian drag-flick specialist also said that many youngsters will be banking on Sreejesh’s experience.

Former Australian drag-flick specialist Chris Ciriello was appointed as India hockey team's analytical coach last week. On Wednesday, he said that his role will not only be confined to improving drag-flicking abilities. He also wants to inculcate the habit of winning. He also said that he understands the Indian culture well.

“This is a very good opportunity. I know India and understand its culture. I think we will get to taste lot of wins, but want to make sure these guys have an understanding of winning. This is one of my main focus area as analytical coach,” Ciriello was quoted saying by News18.

Ciriello had a shot at limelight with his superb hat-tricks in The Hague World Cup and Glasgow Commonwealth Games finals in 2014. He also bagged two Champions Trophy gold medals in 2010 and 2012 and the World Cup in 2014. He was also a part of Australia's bronze medal-winning side in the 2012 London Olympics.

The 32-year old also explained how drag-flicking works. “Dragflicking is not only about flicking. There is much to it. 33 percent is all about executing a good push. Another 33 percent is about perfect trapping and 34 percent is about flicking. So, I am working on imparting these three skills to drag-flickers. You don't get goals if one of these skills goes awry," he explained.

Further, commenting on Sreejesh’s comeback, Ciriello said the goalkeeper brings good culture and calmness, besides his experience. He thinks that the goalkeeper’s experience will help the youngsters in the team.

“Sreejesh also is one among the core players who has played over 100 games and many youngsters bank on his experience and assistance to improve their game,” the former Australian player stated.
