India got a reality check when they faced Australia in their second match in the Olympic Test Event, as they survived a scare by the skin of their teeth, thanks to Gurjit Kaur’s late goal. The Indian eves had started the campaign on a strong note by beating Japan 2-1 in their opening match.

India’s unbeaten run in the test event continued but not before a big jolt that saw the Australian women dominating the entire first quarter as India sat back and defended. Kaitlin Nobbs gave Australia an early lead and continued testing goalkeeper Savita relentlessly but the custodian kept her side in the game through a string of fine saves.

Her efforts finally paid off when the third quarter began as Vandana got the much-needed equalizer during the 36th minute. However, the Indian side got complacent as soon as they levelled, and Australia were seen retaking the lead once again through Grace Stewart.

However, just when India were looking at an imminent defeat, their star from the match against Japan, Gurjit Kaur, who had scored twice in their win, got on the score sheet again to end the gruelling match 2-2 in Tokyo. She had left it very late this time and the side would be aware of their shortcomings when they face China next.
