Six hockey players, who were struck with the Covid-19 and admitted to a multi-specialty hospital in Bengaluru, have been discharged on Monday after recovering from the virus. The players would be kept in quarantine at the SAI centre in the city over the course of the next ten days.

All the players of the men’s and women’s hockey team assembled in Bengaluru for the national training camp earlier this month, but the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the city pushed back the start of the camp. Moreover, Indian men’s team skipper Mandeep Singh, along with Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar, goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak were all tested positive for the virus and admitted to a multi-speciality hospital in the city. On Monday, all of the six affected players were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the virus.

"Manpreet Singh, Surender Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Varun Kumar, Krishan B Pathak and Mandeep Singh, who had tested Positive for COVID-19 earlier this month and were later shifted to hospital as a precautionary measure and for better monitoring were discharged from hospital earlier today," read a statement from the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The rest of the players were already scheduled to re-start their respective camps on August 19, while the players struck with Covid-19 would join them later on. The six discharged players will now serve a quarantine period at the SAI centre in Bengaluru and kept away from other campers over the course of the next 10 days.

"They are now under quarantine at Sports Authority of India's National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Bengaluru. They will be in quarantine at SAI's Bengaluru centre and will be given the anti-body test after 10 days to check if they have built immunity against the virus. All the six players are housed in the ground floor of the hostel, where other members of the camp have no access,” stated SAI.
