The Indian batting legend, who is also the goodwill ambassador for the Rio Olympics, on Friday sent a heartfelt message to all the fans who supported the athletes competing in Rio Olympics. Sachin also praised bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and expressed his excitement at PV Sindhu's final match.

Indian cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar thanked the country for their support of the athletes who took part in the Olympics in Rio 2016. He also stressed that in sport, things may not go as planned always pointing out to India's medal chances that went unfulfilled eventually.

Sachin said, "Few results have not been to our liking but in sports there is always ups and downs. I am thankful to the entire nation for staying behind our athletes and supporting them," reported PTI.

"If things are not going our way we need to find ways to make things better. That can only happen if we continue to give them support," Tendulkar said, in an important message as our athletes faced flak until two days back for their disappointing performances, reported PTI.

The little master was also full of praise for Sakshi Malik, as the grappler became India's first medallist at the Rio Olympics. "I am really happy for Sakshi. She has really done well and made the country proud," he said at a Healthcare summit he attended in New Delhi.

Tendulkar also said he was eagerly waiting for P V Sindhu's women's singles final match against World No.1 Carolina Marin of Spain.

"I am extremely happy and excited about Sindhu's match today. I don't want to miss that and will be praying for her success," said Tendulkar.

PV Sindhu's match will start at 6:55 pm IST on Friday, August 19.
