India have won their third gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games through Satish Kumar Sivalingam in Men’s 77 kg category as the defending gold medalist kept his record intact. After ending the snatch category with a lift of 144 kg, Sivalingam got a lift 173 in the clean and jerk.

Already holding the Games record in the Men’s 77 kg snatch category in the 2014 CWG, Sivalingam had a tough task on his hands to keep that intact. However, the Indian hardly had to sweat in his snatch attempts this time as he lifted 136 kg, 140 kg and 144 kg, which saw him finish with three kilos lesser than his Games record and one kg less than England's Jack Oliver.

Oliver was proving to be the Indian's main competition and with local favorite Francois Etoundi also piling on some good numbers, the clean and jerk category promised to be close one. Oliver, who finished with a lift of 145 kg in the snatch category, didn’t look his determined self in the clean and jerk as he finished with two failed attempts after successfully lifting 167 kg.

Sivalingam went on to lift 169 kg ad 173 kg with no pressure whatsoever that refrained him from attempting the third one. He finished with a lift of 317kg, which was five kilos more than his closest competitor, Oliver. Sivalingam became the third gold medalist to win gold after Mirabai Chanu and Sanjita Chanu.

Etoundi managed to win a bronze with a heroic last attempt though, which saw him pulling off a 169-kg lift, after failing to lift 168 kg in the second attempt. He finished with 305 kg in the third position.
