Asian Games rowing squad experiencing 'strange' health issues

The top rowing players are affected with this strange health issues which is a cause of concern ahead of the Games. The lower back pain as per Gioga is quite common among the rowers, but the players are complaining of pain in areas where it is not quite usual for them to experience.

“Strange because every time they have a lot of pain which is not common in rowing. I haven't seen this kind (of pain) with any of the athletes that I have worked with,” Gioga told PTI.

“Lower back pain is very common among rowers, but here they have shoulder pain, knee pain and stomach pain. Often they catch a cold, or a sore throat. Their immunity seems to be very low because there is all kind of illness,” she added.

Currently, Asian Games rowing squad is going through a training camp for the Asian Games in Jakarta from August 18 at the Army Rowing Node in Pune. India has formulated a 34-member squad including 27 men and seven women to compete in 11 out of 15 events that are scheduled to take place at Jakabaring Lake in Palembang.

Army Rower Dattu Bhokanal complained of shoulder pain, proving the strange health issues surrounding the players. Sawarn Singh, who won the single scull bronze in Incheon, has been down with viral fever twice and suffered from typhoid once.
