Jeremy Lalrinnunga has registered three new records in the 67 kg category at the ongoing Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships on Thursday. On the other hand, National Champion Achinta Sheuli won the men’s 73 kg gold, while also claiming the junior title at the ongoing event.

Youth Olympics gold-medallist Jeremy Lalrinnunga lifted 136 kgs in the snatch category of the 67 kg weight category at the Commonwealth Championships to shatter three records yesterday. However, the 16-year-old from Mizoram failed to impress in the clean and jerk category. He recorded new Youth World Record, Asia and Commonwealth records with his sensational show in the snatch event.

The Indian weightlifter’s poor performance in the clean and jerk event resulted in him missing out on registering a total lift. This will affect his points as it will be considered for the qualification of the weightlifters in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

India clinched four golds, two silvers and a bronze in the competition as the Indian weightlifters continued to shine at the event. National champion Achinta Sheuli lifted a total of 305 kgs and claimed the gold medal in the men’s 73kg weight category. He also bagged the title in the junior boys’ category. Manpreet Kaur clinched the gold medal in the women’s 76 kg category with a total lift of 207 kg (91kg+116kg).

Gulam Navi won the yellow metal in the junior 67 kg category, while the gold and bronze medals in the 73 kg of junior and youth events respectively were bagged by Sadananda Singh. Manpreet Kaur lifted a total of 207 kg to finish second in the women’s 76 kg weight group, while R. Arockiya Alish lifted 188 kg to win a silver medal in the junior women’s 76 kg event.
