Hyderabad Aces stun Nagpur Orangers to enter CTL final

Hyderabad Aces defeated Nagpur Orangers 23-21 in the Champions Tennis League (CTL) 2015 on Friday to enter the final. In a roller-coaster of a match with both teams going for the victory, Ivo Karlovic held his nerve to win the final tie for the Hyderabad Aces at Nagpur.

In the CTL format, the final result is decided upon the basis of the aggregate score of the five-match tie. The five matches are in the category of legends (singles), mixed doubles, women's singles, men's doubles and men's singles. Each tie also consists of five sets.

In the legend’s tie, Thomas Johansson defeated Alex Corretja of Nagpur 5-4 to give Hyderabad a winning start to the match.

In the battle of former World number one players, Jelena Jankovic of Nagpur defeated Martina Hingis of Hyderabad 5-4 to level the match at 9-9.

Hingis partnered Ivo Karlovic in the mixed doubles tie to defeat Feliciano Lopez and Jelena Jankovic 5-3 to take Hyderabad into the lead for second time in the match.

In the crucial men’s doubles tie, Feliciano Lopez and Divij Sharan defeated Ivo Karlovic and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 5-4 to reduce Hyderabad’s lead to one.

In the last tie of the day, Ivo Karlovic held his nerve to defeat Feliciano Lopez 5-4 to guide Hyderabad into the final.

In the finale of the tournament on Sunday, North Zone champions Punjab Marshalls will take on South Zone champions Hyderabad Aces at the Fateh Maidan in Hyderabad.
