Injured Rohan Bopanna removed from Davis Cup squad

Indian tennis star Rohan Bopanna has withdrawn from the Davis Cup due to a knee injury. The 36-year-old, who had earlier crashed out of the men's doubles and the mixed doubles of the US Open, has been replaced by 19-year-old Sumit Nagal in the Indian squad which is set to face Spain next week.

Rohan Bopanna has informed the Chairman of Selection Committee that due to a knee injury which he suffered during US Open, he has been advised  2 weeks rest from competition. Hence he has requested for withdrawal from the Davis Cup tie against Spain which is going to be held in Delhi from 16-18 September 2016. His request was considered and accepted by the Committee.

It was also decided by the Committee to include Sumit Nagal in the four playing member team for the Davis Cup tie against Spain.

The Indian Team will be as under:-

1) Saketh Myneni

2) Ramkumar Ramanathan

3) Leander Paes

4) Sumit Nagal

Reserve

1) Prajnesh Gunneswaran

Non-Playing Captain: Mr Anand Amritraj

Coach: Mr Zeeshan Ali
