World No.1 Andy Murray announced that he won't be competing at the Cincinnati Masters tournament scheduled to commence next week as he is still recovering from a hip injury. However, he is still hopeful of making a return at the US Open later this month where will be looking to bag a second title.

Andy Murray's hip injury continues to haunt the World No. 1 as after losing the quarterfinals at Wimbledon due to the injury, the 30-year old has now been forced to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters tournament.

"Unfortunately I won't be playing in Cincinnati as I continue my recovery," Murray said in a statement, reported Reuters.

"I always enjoy playing there and I look forward to returning next year. I'm continuing to work hard on the court with the aim of being in New York," he added.

The decision comes as a huge setback to Murray's chances of winning a second US Open title as he has been out of action since his quarterfinal match against Sam Querrey at Wimbledon and has not participated in any hard court event in the run up to the last Grand Slam of the year.

Moreover, not competing at the Cincinnati Masters tournament will not only hurt his chances of winning the US Open but will most likely lead to the Briton losing his number one spot in the World rankings which he has held since November last year.

Murray's absence from the ongoing Rogers Cup means Rafael Nadal could displace him at the helm of the ATP World rankings by reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.
